03/19/2024The Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy and the Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry congratulate Dr. Hans-Christian Schmitt on being awarded the Ars legendi Faculty Prize for excellent teaching in chemistry.
Dr. Hans-Christian Schmitt, Academic Councillor at the Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, has been awarded the Ars legendi Faculty Prize for Mathematics and Natural Sciences for his outstanding achievements in teaching. The prestigious prize is awarded by the Stifterverband, the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker, the Deutsche Mathematiker-Vereinigung, the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft and the Verband Biologie, Biowissenschaften und Biomedizin in Deutschland for excellent university teaching. The prize is endowed with 5,000 euros each and has honoured four outstanding scientists from the subjects of biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics for innovative teaching and special support for students every year since 2014.
In the Chemistry category, Dr Schmitt was recognised for his commitment and innovative teaching concepts, particularly in physical chemistry. His redesign of practical experiments and digitalisation strategies promote active, research-oriented learning. With target group-appropriate materials, variable discussion formats and creative learning controls, Dr Schmitt increases learning success and arouses enthusiasm for experimental work.
As a pioneer of digital teaching methods, Dr Schmitt makes a significant contribution to ensuring high-quality teaching at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. His exemplary concepts for science teaching set standards, promote the learning success of students and serve as a driving force for practical and research-orientated education in Germany.
The award ceremony will take place on 23 April 2024 at the EXPERIMINTA ScienceCenter in Frankfurt am Main, where Dr Schmitt will be honoured for his services to chemistry education.
