    Prof. Dr. José Luis Serrano

Title of the Award Lecture: Multifunctional Materials Based On Mesogenic Structures That Mimic Macroscopic Tools And Devices.

José Luis Serrano received his education and PhD at the University of Zaragoza and became full professor of Organic Chemistry at this University in 1996. Since 1984, he is the leader of the “Liquid Crystals and Polymers” (CLIP) research group. This group has gained national and international recognition by developing several main research lines in the Liquid Crystals area (LC): Ferroelectric and Antiferroelectric LC, Metal-containing LC, Photosensitive LC Polymers, LC based on Supramolecular Complexes, Functional LC and more recently working on Nanostructured dendrimeric Materials for Biomedical applications. He is author of more than 400 scientific papers (more than 11000 citations), six patents (5 international and 1 national) and 8 plenary and 36 invited lectures in conferences. His awards include the 2006 "Aragón Investiga-Prize", the 2010 Ben Sturgeon Lectureship (British LCS), the 2017 Freedericksz Medal (Russian LCS) and the 2022 Alfred Saupe Preis (German LCS).
