The research groups at our institute share strong roots in synthetic organic chemistry and the vision to generate functional molecules and materials with tailored properties. Current research topics cover modern aspects of supramolecular and biomolecular chemistry, that range from the synthesis of innovative building blocks, to guiding their self-assembly and organization into larger architectures, and to the detailed structural and functional characterization of the resulting catalytic, electronic, and photophysical properties. Functional pi-scaffolds are applied in materials science, whereas nucleic acids, engineered proteins, and glycoconjugates are developed for the detection and manipulation of biological targets.
