Fat Thursday (Altweiberfasching) - funny social event
02/27/2025Old tradition as a prelude to carnival. Women are taking power. The idea has been around since the Middle Ages. At a time when women were subordinate to men in everything, there was an “upside-down world” on one day during carnival time.
Women took over the power. Wives refused to obey their husbands on this day.
The custom of cutting off men's ties on Women's Carnival only became established in larger parts of society in the middle of the 20th century. The tie is seen as a typical symbol of male power.
Even though women and men have equal rights today, it's still a lot of fun
