Best Oral Presentation Award for Leonard Fink
08/02/2024Leonard Fink was awarded the Materials Advances Oral Prize provided by the RSC Journal Materials Advances for his exceptional performance at the ILCC2024 in Rio de Janeiro.
The International Liquid Crystal Conference (ILCC, https://ilcc2024.com) is the most important biannual event of the Liquid Crystal Community (ILCS) https://www.ilcsoc.org. Leonard and his mentor, Matthias Lehmann did participate with two oral contributions, a keynote lecture and a Poster.
Leonard presented his extraordinary results on a liquid crystal system of a heterocyclic aromatic unit, the benzothienobenzothiophene, which belongs to the best organic semiconductors known today. His talk with the title “Low melting BTBT mesogens with ambipolar charge carrier transport” shows a liquid crystalline version of this semiconductor. The outstanding property is its high completely ambipolar charge carrier mobility, that is the same mobilities of electrons and holes (positive charges) throughout the liquid crystalline material. Such materials are especially interesting for photovoltaic applications.
“It is incredible inspiring being in contact with so many specialists of the own research field”, pointed out Leonard, who is now extremely motivated to take new challenges at the University of Würzburg. Nevertheless, the conference in the Brazilian Winter left enough room for touristic excursions such as to the world-famous Christo Redentor and the Sugarloaf.
