Carsten Schmuck leaves Würzburg
05/30/2008Prof. Dr. Carsten Schmuck accepted a call for a chair of organic chemistry at the University Duisburg-Essen and will leave the University of Würzburg by the end of this summer term. He declined another call for a chair at the University of Jena.
Since 2002 Carsten Schmuck is C3-Professor at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, since 2003 project leader of Collaborative Research Center ("Sonderforschungsbereich") 630, since 2006 chairman of the GDCh section Unterfranken (Lower Franconia) and since 2007 dean of studies for chemistry. During these years he demonstrated outstanding commitment as academic teacher, in regular student courses as well as outside the university(e.g. in highschools), and achieved a remarkable scientific output.
Prof. Schmuck and his group will now move to Essen at the end of summer term 2008. In Essen a brand new institute awaits their arrival. Ideal conditions for further scientific success and which will help make the departure from Würzburg easier for Prof. Schmuck and his co-workers, who will definitely not leave Würzburg light-hearted. In return the colleagues in Würzburg will not let go Prof. Schmuck light-hearted either, but they certainly let him go with their best wishes.
