Eichii Nakamura Is Giving Siegfried Hünig Lecture 2017
03/23/2017"Chemistry: A Bridge between Molecular World and Real World" is the title of this year’s lecture on April 27. Prof. Nakamura, internationally renowned chemist from the University of Tokyo, is going to give his audience an overview of more than 35 years of extraordinarily successful research in his laboratories.
Eiichi Nakamura, born in 1951, holds the Chair of Molecular Technology Innovation at the University of Tokyo. In his career as a synthetic and physical organic chemist he has contributed to a wide area of research topics including transition-metal catalysis, carbon clusters, molecular nanosystems, photovoltaics, and single molecule TEM imaging.
Throughout his career he has authored over 500 publications and accumulated over 24,000 citations. Nakamura’s research has been recognized with a number of awards including the Chemical Society of Japan Award (2003), the Humboldt Research Award (2006), the Medal with Purple Ribbon from His Majesty the Emperor of Japan (2009), the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award of ACS (2010), the 55th Fujiwara Award (2014), and the Centenary Prize of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2014).
Nakamura is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (1998), Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2005), Honorary Foreign Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2008), Honorary Member of the Israel Chemical Society (2009), and Einstein Professor of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2011). He has continuously contributed editorial service to international journals and is Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Chemical Society. He is also a passionate baroque flute player.
The Siegfried Hünig Lecture 2017 will take place on April 27, at 4:30 pm in lecture hall B, located in the central building of the chemistry center.
