In February 2009 Gustavo Fernández joined Frank Würthner’s research group as a postdoc and Alexander von Humboldt research fellow. Thanks to his excellent academic and scientific career with many publications in journals of high impact and several awards he was granted the highly prestigious Sofja Kovalevskaja Award by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in 2010.

With the 1.63 million euros prize money he set up his own research group at the University of Würzburg, which he successfully headed for five years. Last year he accepted a call from the University of Münster as professor (W2) of organic chemistry. Since then, building up the group in Münster has kept him quite busy, but shortly after receiving an ERC Starting Grant he finally visited our faculty again and gave an amazing lecture about self-assembled nanostructures based on π-conjugated scaffolds.

We congratulate him on completing his habilitation and wish him all the best for his further scientific career.
