Jake Greenfield was born in England in 1993 and completed his undergraduate training at Imperial College London, his PhD studies at the University of Cambridge, and held a Research Associate position at Imperial College London. He also embarked on several international research stays, including a 5-month internship at the Georgia Institute of Technology (USA) and the University of Trieste (Italy). In summer 2022, he joined the group of Prof. Frank Würthner for a postdoctoral stay as a Humboldt Fellow. The Liebig Fellowship enables him to start his independent research group in April 2023.

Stimuli-responsive supramolecular materials

Greenfield’s research interests center on the design of self-assembled, stimuli-responsive materials for use in optoelectronic applications and rewritable information systems. By combining organic ligands and stimuli-responsive motifs prepared via organic synthesis with supramolecular interactions, materials that can alter their physical properties in response to an applied stimulus can be developed. The group's current efforts are focused on developing novel strategies to obtain tailored materials with a high degree of control.

The Liebig Fellowship

The Liebig Fellowship, offered by the VCI (German Chemical Industry Association) Fonds der chemischen industrie, supports the career development of exceptional chemists pursuing a career in academia. The fellowship provides funding for up to five years of research to be conducted at a German university or research institution. It is awarded to applicants who have a proven track record of research excellence and aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas between the German chemical industry and the international scientific community.
