New Heisenberg fellow enforces the area of materials science
10/08/2010On October, 1st Matthias Lehmann moved from the Chemnitz University of Technology to the University of Würzburg, where he finds best conditions for continuing his research on soft, organised materials and liquid crystals. This step forward is supported by a Heissenberg fellowship which allows him to establish a new research group in Würzburg.
Matthias Lehmann received his PhD from the University of Mainz in 1999 under the supervision of Professor Herbert Meier. After postdoctoral research at the University of Zaragoza with Professor J.-L. Serrano and at the Free University of Brussels with Professor Yves Geerts he joined the Chemnitz University of Technology in 2004 as Juniorprofessor. In 2009 he was appointed to be apl. Professor. 2010 he was rewarded with the Heisenberg fellowship of the German Science Foundation (DFG), which now enables him to set up a new research group in Würzburg.
Matthias Lehmann’s research focuses on the area of soft, organised materials and liquid crystals. In the frame of the Heisenberg fellowship, complex supermolecules will be prepared and their electro-optical properties will be studied. Such materials are very attractive for organic electronics, for example in light emitting diodes, field-effect transistors and photovoltaic cells.
Dr. Lehmann will start teaching already in the winter semester 2010/2011. He will offer a special lecture Introduction to chemistry and physics of soft, liquid crystalline materials (0720105) for all interested diploma or master students and scientist working on their diploma or PhD thesis.
