Poster Award for Prabhat Sahu
11/19/2009Prabhat K. Sahu, post-doc at the Institute of Organic Chemistry (research group of Prof. Engels), was awarded the poster prize at the 2nd Indo-German Symposium on "Modeling Chemical and Biological (Re)Activity" held in Wildbad Kreuth.
The 2nd Indo-German symposium was organized by Prof. Dr. Hendrik Zipse, German Coordinator and Dr. G. Narahari Sastry, Indian Coordinator. The main objective of the symposium was to deepen contacts made during the first symposium in Hyderabad, India in 2007, and in particular in those areas where collaborative interactions at the interface of computational chemistry and biology are most apparent.
The award winning poster with the title "Modeling of Electrophilic Warheads for Irreversible Inhibition Mechanisms of HIV-1 Protease" discusses new results obtained by extended QM and QM/MM computations. HIV-1 protease is a proteolytic enzyme that catalyses the hydrolysis of peptide bonds in polypeptides. It is a well known drug target in antiviral chemotherapy.
The work is in parts sponsored by the DFG (SFB 630) and by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
