New Research Group on Organic Structural Chemistry
10/18/2016For the first time, the Department of Chemistry enables a young researcher to start her independent academic career as a Junior Professor and welcomes Ann-Christin Pöppler as a new faculty member.
Ann-Christin Pöppler’s general research interests are structure elucidation of compounds on the border between (in)organic-pharmaceutical and macromolecular chemistry, analytical methods with an emphasis on NMR spectroscopy, and combining approaches from different fields of research (e.g. NMR, DFT calculations, X-ray diffraction, …). As a Junior Professor at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, the focus of her research will be on polymer-based drug delivery using high-resolution NMR spectroscopy in solution, anisotropic NMR and techniques from the broad field of NMR Crystallography (solid-state NMR supported by DFT calculations). In addition, she will also be involved in both Bachelor and Master programmes, starting already in the winter semester 2016/17.
After her general chemistry studies, Ann-Christin obtained both her diploma and her PhD under the supervision of Dietmar Stalke at the University of Göttingen. Co-supervised by Michael John, she looked at organometallic compounds in solution as well as inside swollen polymer gels. Following a short introduction to solid-state NMR in the group of Adam Lange at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen, she spent the past two years working in the field of NMR Crystallography in Steven Brown’s lab (Department of Physics) at the University of Warwick, UK.
She is very much looking forward to the exciting research environment at the University of Würzburg and her new responsibilities in research and teaching.
