Important Note
Please note that the EU funding for the double degree programme with our Australien partner universities ended in 2018. This (double degree) programme is not currently offered.
Description
Programme Overview
The biofabrication programme has a strong interdisciplinary focus and is essentially concerned with the various applications of additive manufacturing technologies such as 3D printing.
The programme offers students scientific lectures and practical exercises in the field of 3D printing technologies for application in biotechnology.
The programme is offered primarily in German.
Job Prospects
Biofabrication has its origins in additive manufacturing techniques, commonly known as 3D printing.
The demand for this technology and the products is growing exponentially.
In training a new generation of researchers in this field, our goal is to open up excellent opportunities for our students, whether they pursue a career in an academic or industrial field.
Already, the demand for well-trained specialists with the relevant skills is so great that it cannot be met by current graduate numbers, especially in the field of industrial 3D printing, making job prospects for graduates of the programme numerous.
Admission
In order to be admitted to the master's programme, you will need to go through an aptitude screening. Further information to the admission process, in German, can be found here.
Applications are accepted through July 15th of the year you intend to begin the programme.
For general information related to enroling in and pursuing a degree programme, please contact the Student's Affairs Office.
Structure, Objectives and Content
Research-based work and practice-oriented learning as well as an interdisciplinary orientation characterize the master's degree.
The research work carried out should result in at least one scientific article in a professional journal.
In the first semester, students attend courses at the University of Würzburg. The master thesis, written in the 4th semester (duration 6 months), is also carried out in Würzburg.
Students spend the 2nd and 3rd semesters working on a scientific project. This can take place either at the University of Würzburg, abroad, or in external research institutions.
Further information on the application and admission processes can be found here. [Note: This information is currently only available in German as the programme is in German.]
Doctoral Studies
Following the master's programme you can pursue a doctoral degree in Chemistry or another subject.
A doctoral degree is particularly useful if you plan to work in a research-oriented field or to further expand your interdisciplinary expertise.
The doctoral thesis usually takes three to four years to complete.
Further information on the path to a PhD at our faculty can be found here.
