Programme Overview
Chemistry is a natural science concerned with the structure, properties and transformation of substances.
The standard programme duration is 6 semesters for the bachelor's degree and 4 semesters for the master's degree. There are no restrictions on the number of places in either programme.
Both the bachelor's and master's programmes can be started in either the summer or winter semester.
Job Prospects
Chemists often find job opportunities in fields such as industrial research and production.
However, chemists are also frequently employed in the public sector, in management consultancies and in the media.

Admission
Admission to the bachelor's programm is unrestricted. This means you can enrol until shortly after the start of the semester.
In order to be admitted to the master's programm, you will need to go through an aptitude screening.

Structure, Objectives and Content
The bachelor's programme is broad and provides advanced knowledge and practical skills in inorganic, organic, physical and theoretical chemistry as well as the basics of biochemistry, mathematics and physics.
In the master's programme, you have the opportunity to individually design your course of study by selecting from a wide range of specializations.
Doctoral Studies
Around 80 to 90% of master's graduates follow their studies with a doctorate, which is particularly useful if you plan to work in a research-oriented field.
The doctoral thesis usually takes three to four years to complete.
