Tietze, he was involved in the synthesis of Vitamin E. He moved to the University of Oxford to work with Professor Dr. Chris Schofield in the Dyson Perrins Laboratory (Department of Organic Chemistry) on serine proteases and Hypoxia-inducible factors (HIF) on the mechanisms and as therapeutic targets. After the Oxford period he came back to Germany starting his independent research at the University of Braunschweig, where he received his habilitation. He moved to Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI). In 2009 he became professor at the University of Würzburg. His present research interests are focused on Bioorganic Chemistry and Chemical Biology including the development of chemical and enzymatic syntheses, biocatalysis, protein engineering, drug delivery and glycosciences. Juergen Seibel received several awards including the Dechema Jochen Block prize and the DuPont young professor award. He is speaker of the GRK 2581, which aims to identify and validate targets for novel anti-infective or immunotherapeutic strategies targeting infectious diseases at the level of modulation of the sphingolipid metabolism.
